.... just a few rambling thoughts

I recently watched this documentary that chronicles Iron Mike's rise and fall and I was struck by the anecdote that Mike speaks to regarding his fight with Trevor Berbick detailing his pre-fight battle with an excruciatingly painful case of gonnorhea. This story personifies the discipline and charachter exemplified by Tyson in his early career and why he rose to the top. The unfortunate and untimely crotch burn was in consequence to a tryst that Mike had with what he refers to as either a prostitute or a very filthy woman that he had spent time with earlier.... but rather than give in to adversity, Mike focused and made quick work of Berbick. This was no gutless puke.

Unfortunately, the noble charachter, courage, and integrity displayed by Mike in this instance would fade as MIke grew older and was less able to stay focused and dsciplined and lost to less than mediocre caliber fighters. More than anything though the film made me nostalgic about an era that I believe we will never see again for it seems that the sweet science( at least in the heavyweight dvision) will never again have fighters that will capture the imagination like Tyson, Ali, Foreman, Marciano, Frazier, Dempsey........ and Hagler , Hearns, Duran etc among Middleweights .... I think it is a shame too because I think these athletes posess rare skills that will never be seen again and I don't think MMA can ever replace them. ...love your thoughts on Boxing ,MMA etc
